Frequently Asked Questions
Sales FAQs
How is a PAK System different from any other multi-column chromatography skid?
A PAK System is not just a chromatography skid. A single PAK System has four stages to perform multiple purification steps simultaneously. While PAK Systems are capable of dual column chromatography, they can also perform in-line viral inactivation, viral and other filtration steps, and ultrafiltration diafiltration. The fully automated PAK system and integrated real-time PAT ensure tight control over every step of your process.
Do I need to buy the software separately?
The purchase of a PAK automated system comes with the automation license and no further software needs to be purchased.
Do I need a supervisory control system to use a PAK System?
PAK Systems are fully functional as standalone products. No SCADA system is required. But, it can integrate with one if desired.
What if I want to try a PAK System before committing to buying one?
Not ready to have a PAK System in your facility? You can attend a PAK Training Course at our headquarters and work with the system in our laboratory. You will get hands-on training, learn about the design of a continuous processes, and earn a certificate in PAK System operation.
What is the lead time on a new system?
The current lead time for a new PAK PD or PAK Pilot System is 3-6 months.
The lead time for a new PAK K-Series System is 6-9 months.
Do you offer a warranty or maintenance plan?
Yes, we warrantee all of our capital equipment for one year. We also offer extended warranty contracts that include annual preventative maintenance services. Contact us to learn more!
Do you sell columns, filters, and resins?
We do not sell columns, filters, or resins. Our system is brand-agnostic for these consumables. We will accommodate your selections with the correct connectors and fittings.
Operational FAQs
What facility requirements do PAK Systems have to operate?
PAK PD Systems only need an electricity source of 120V AC.
PAK Pilot Systems need 6.2 bar (90 psi) instrument air and a 120V AC electricity source.
PAK K-Series Systems need 6.2 bar (90 psi) instrument air and a 480V 3-phase electricity source.
What is the consumable portion of a PAK System?
To run a process on your PAK System, you will need to purchase consumables: flow kit assemblies and buffer lines.
All PAK Systems have four stages and therefore you will need four flow kit assemblies to use all four stages of your system.
PAK PD System flow kit assemblies already include buffer lines. Buffer lines for PAK Pilot and PAK K-Series Systems are sold separately. For a typical system setup, you will need four buffer lines because there are four buffer pumps per system.
Can you connect multiple PAK Systems?
You may connect multiple PAK Systems in series to operate more than 4 stages in continuous mode. Additionally, you may connect other skids before, after, and even between stages of PAK Systems. Please contact our engineers for information about integration of your PAK Systems.
How do you inactivate virus inline?
We perform inline virus inactivation with inline pH titration to acidify the material and achieve the hold time with a residence chamber or column packed with inert resin. The material is neutralized inline with base upon exiting the column.
What is the automation platform?
PAK Systems use a Rockwell-based platform. This makes it easy to integrate with your facility’s existing networks and programs.
Regulatory FAQs
What safety features do PAK Systems have?
There is an emergency stop button on the right side of all PAK Systems.
Process conditions, including pressure, are continuously monitored throughout the process. The system pauses when alarm limits are reached.
Is the automation GMP-compliant?
Yes, our automation is 21 CFR Part 11 Compliant.
Are your flow kits GMP-compliant?
We offer GMP flow kit assemblies for PAK Pilot and PAK K-Series Systems. Our GMP flow kit assemblies feature USP Class VI product-contact materials, ISO-7 cleanroom production, gamma irradiation treatment, and a certificate of conformance (CoC).
